In Up In the Air, Clooney proves he's still hot & Anna Kendrick shows she's this year's best newcomer. The dramatic comedy follows Ryan Bingham (George Clooney), a middle-aged guy whose job is to fire people from theirs. He floats through life with a career requiring him to live out of a suitcase & never truly be able to form substantial relationships with others-a reality he's perfectly content with. Natalie (a brilliant Anna Kendrick) is the arrogant young know-it-all who's hired by Ryan's boss to accompany him across country & see exactly what Ryan's job entails. The relationship gap between Natalee & Ryan allows them to learn from each other as they recognize the disheartening realities of their ways of life. Vera Farmiga also shines as Alex, the women who finally gets Ryan to make a connection. Up in the Air was nominated for 6 Oscars, including Best Motion Picture, Best Director & Best Actor nods for the three leads. It's a perfect movie for the recession & stands out among films like 2012 that plagued the box office this year.
