Lena pushes the boundaries in her endeavor to reveal the true complications of sex from the perspective of a 20-something girl. |
Girls is the new phenomenon: feminist, kick-ass, laugh-out-loud type of show that is a rare gem. It comes in the wake of Sex and the City but is creating waves of its own on HBO. Lena Dunham is the new face for twenty-something girls trying to figure out love, life and all its complications in the ever-so-hipster borough of Brooklyn, New York. Let's talk about Lena. She's the writer, star, director and mastermind behind the madness. Lena's taken a lot of slam for her unapologetic nudity throughout the series. Would it even be a topic of conversation if she was the size of her costars and not the beautiful plus-size woman she so openly embodies? Probably not. Even still, she takes on the haters like a champ and her willingness to stand strong behind her views makes us love her even more. Girls is an amazing show for young women struggling to process the dating world and find footing in a complicated time. With so many boundaries broken and taboo topics discussed it's easy to see why Girls makes some critics squeamish However, if you can appreciate blunt honesty, awkward realism and dark humor please do indulge in this series.
