Random Deep Thought: "The Sweetness of Doing Nothing" |
In Italy, they live by this saying. It means "the sweetness of doing nothing." Finding goodness in moments without a specific purpose. Doing what feels good shouldn't be a task; it's a simple part of life. Most people feel the need to schedule in time for relaxation and leisure. As Americans, we tend to plan in advance and squeeze in time for "play" between long hours of "work" that dominates daily life. Italians would beg to
differ, I'm sure. Because pleasure isn't a destination or a block of time that one plans ahead for. It should just naturally fill in to your life. Too many people exhaust themselves chasing for happiness. Pinning a feeling on an appointment or event will only limit you. The goodness of life can't be limited, planned for or squeezed in to a schedule. It comes from soaking in the sweetness of life without expectations or restraints."Il dolce far niente" is a way a life that reminds us to not take ourselves too seriously and enjoy happiness without a purpose.
