I Heart Cover Songs

Some things are sweeter the second time around. Most of the time, artists completely butcher an original song to make a consumer-worthy hit (Britney Spears' "I Love Rock 'n' Roll, gag me) and completely lose the essence of the music's intent. However, when done right a cover song can not only bring an artist mainstream success but can solidify his/her spot in music's history. Jeff Buckley's highly acclaimed rendition of "Hallelujah" not only gave Leonard Cohen's lyrics a more profound meaning but affected an entire generation, becoming the song he is best known for.

Here are a few that definitely don't suck:

Jamie Cullum's "Please Don't Stop the Music" takes Rhianna's club anthem to a completely different place. He shows an incredible range from Pharrell's "Frontin" to Radiohead's "High & Dry".

The Postal Service boldly covers "Against All Odds". Most artists wouldn't go near a song by such an iconic musician as Phil Collins, but I'm sure glad Ben & Jimmy did.
