"Skins" comes to the States
British BAFTA-winning drama series "Skins" travels across the pond to MTV. The show features new actors and young writers, with most of the characters having different names but similar story-lines from the original show. Early-on MTV's "Skins" received mixed reviews & a lot of media coverage criticizing the controversial drug use & sexual nature. Whatever. The fourth episode, "Cadie", provides a turn in a more promissing direction. Britne Oldford is perfect as Cady, a prescription-drug addicted, depressed teen with a f*cked up family life. You also might appreciate this episode's unique editing- long still shots, slow pans/zooms- diverging from the typical MTV fast cut style. Overall, "Skins" is a laudable attempt by MTV to move from trashy to edgy & present a more legitimate representation of teenagers that's more relatable than "Gossip Girl". See for yourself Mondays @ 10pm on MTV.
